Kathy Fennick, RHIA, CCS, CDIP
Kathy Fennick is a seasoned healthcare executive with over 30 years of experience in coding operations and revenue management. Most recently serving as the Associate Vice President of Coding Operations at Geisinger Health System in Danville, PA, Kathy was instrumental in developing and executing strategic plans to support revenue management and clinical enterprises. She oversaw coding operations for both professional and hospital settings, leading a team of 195 employees across seven hospitals.
Kathy’s leadership extended to chairing the Quality & Documentation Executive Steering Committee and the System Middle Revenue Cycle team, focusing on charge capture processes. She was a key member of the Denial Reduction Task Force and the EPIC Optimization team. Her efforts in provider education and quality assurance significantly improved documentation and coding accuracy, earning her team a Gold Star classification from EPIC.
Prior to her role at Geisinger, Kathy was the Director of Coding at Stanford Hospital and Clinics in Palo Alto, CA. There, she developed and implemented the ICD-10-CM/PCS coder training plan and created a pre-bill coding quality program. Her collaboration with clinical documentation teams led to substantial improvements in patient care and documentation, particularly in areas such as CHF and sepsis.
Kathy holds credentials as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), and Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP). Her extensive experience and dedication to excellence make her a valuable asset in the healthcare industry.
